What is a Sod Cutter?
By ProMatcher Staff
A sod cutter is a machine or hand tool that removes sod from the ground.
Sod cutters come in many shapes an sizes. Some are large machines (that are driven), some are small machines that are pushed from behind, and others are handheld tools (which are typically pushed from behind).
Sod cutters are used by commercial growers to remove sod from their farms. They are typically cut into flat rectangular pieces and either laid flat or rolled. They are also commonly used by landscapers to remove sod from areas (to enlarge garden beds or make way for a patio or walkway).
For the "do it yourself" crowd, sod cutters can be rented from a local equipment rental store.
