Centipede Grass is a warm season sod grass that grows well in light shade areas and in low fertile soils.

Most Commonly Used For - Sodding lawns
Varieties (Brand Names) - Varieties include Common Centipede, Oaklawn, Raleigh, Tifblair, TennTurf (Tennessee Hardy), Centennial, TopQuality. - Brands include Centiseed (Patten Seed).
Introduced to US - From southeast Asia in 1916.
Type of Soil - Sandy, acidic soil. Can grow in low fertile soils.
Sunlight Requirements - Does well in lightly shaded areas as well in full sunlight.
Color and Dormant Seasons - The color of the grass is not a deep green, it has a lighter "granny smith apple" color.
Mowing Requirements and Height - Requires less mowing than other common sod grasses. - Mow at 1 1/2 to 2 inches (higher during the dryer season)
Drought Tolerance & Water Requirements - Centipede grass has a low drought tolerance. - Requires about 1 inch per week of water.
Fertilizers & Weed Killers
Maintenance Requirements Needs to be dethatched each year which will help the roots become more established. The dethatching needs to occur because the grass grows above ground runners.
Traffic Tolerance - Centipede grass has a low traffic tolerance.
